Meet Our Vicar
Kimberly Cooper
My name is Kimberly Cooper. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. I was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran and confirmed at Lord of Life in Worthington. When I was five years old, I played at being a pastor providing my younger sister a picture book as a “hymnal” and preaching to her while wearing a string of toilet paper as a stole. I attended Northland H.S. (1994) and OSU (1998). In 2001, I married Compton W. Cooper II and moved to Fort Worth, TX. We became members of Trinity Episcopal church shortly after the 9/11 attacks.
I was director of a refugee resettlement office until 2007, when I had a second baby. I, then, worked part time as a consultant on refugee resettlement and an English as a Second Language teacher. After my third daughter was born, I was hired by our Episcopal church as the Children’s Minister. After numerous people asked me if I had thought about pursuing ordination, I had a meeting with the rector of the parish. She was eager to support me in my vocational call, but reminded me that I was actually Lutheran.
Thus, began a year of me working at an Episcopal church while also attending an ELCA church and applying for candidacy. The entire Cooper family moved back to Columbus (Bexley) in December 2017 for me to attend Trinity Lutheran Seminary. I received an email about interning at Ascension while studying in Mexico and did a happy dance in the middle of the street! I look forward to getting to know all of you in the next couple of years.
