JOYCE BOURGAULT HONORED WITH
SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD
The Columbus Rotary annually recognizes volunteers who have demonstrated a commitment to the Columbus Rotary's vision "to Affect Positive and Enduring Change in the Lives of Others." Joyce Bourgault was recognized on March 10, 2008 as one of the recipients of this award. Joyce was nominated as one of the individuals who organized and developed the Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center, Inc. Through the passion of the mission of working with the uninsured population, she continued to be positive, goal-orientated and spiritually connected with accomplishing this mission. Throughout the enthusiasm and excitement of establishing a free clinic, Joyce continued these efforts by staying prayer focused and giving all glory to God. As a result of the vision, she has been able to see the magnitude of the impact of the Center. The Center now offers an option for the adult uninsured to receive free medical services while many would have gone without medical care. It frees up the number of uninsured people who would have gone to an emergency room. The Center provides hope through the social services and spiritual guidance available. Joyce was very active in the development of the Drug Repository which will benefit free clinic clients throughout Franklin County.
Joyce is living up to the mission statement of the Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center, Inc. by being the caring hands of Jesus to provide medical care and health education to those with needs. Joyce is a very deserving recipient of the Service Above Self Award. As an honoree, she will receive a $1,000 donation to the charity of her choice, a Paul Harris Fellowship Medal of Commendation and a $1,000 donation to the Rotary International Foundation.
